Island Gutter Cleaners, Now in the Valley

Duncan Gutter Cleaning is a small, locally owned crew that does one job: getting rainwater off your roof, down the downspouts and away from the foundation.

We have been doing that on Vancouver Island for more than ten years.

Most of those years were spent on the south Island. The Cowichan Valley is where we now work as well, with the same crew, the same ladders and the same way of doing things.

We are insured and WCB-registered, and every clean comes with our guarantee.

What the valley does to gutters

The trees here are big, and they are close to the houses.

Douglas fir and western red cedar drop needles all year. Bigleaf maple sends down plate-sized leaves and seed keys every autumn. Wet, they pack together and stay put.

Then there is the rain. From October into spring it barely lets up, and it is heavier the further inland you go toward Lake Cowichan.

Add older houses in town, acreages with a shop and a barn, and strata rows in North Cowichan, and no two jobs look the same.

We plan each one around the building in front of us.

You hear what we saw

Clearing the debris is the main job.

From the top of the ladder, though, we see parts of the system you can't see from the yard.

• A hanger pulling out of the fascia.
• A joint that drips.
• A run that has lost its slope and holds water.
• A downspout that backs up below ground.
• Moss lifting the edge of the roofing.
• Rot starting behind the gutter.

When we see something like that, we tell you what it is and where.

You decide what happens next. We do not push work on anyone, and plenty of what we point out can wait.

When something can't wait, we also dogutter repair.

How we work out a price

We do not use a flat rate, because a bungalow on an open lot and a two-storey house under firs are not the same job.

The quote comes from:

• How much gutter there is
• How many storeys
• The trees over the roof and how full the runs are
• Access around the building
• Any shops, barns or garages you want done too
