Maple Bay gutter cleaning
Gutter Cleaning for Maple Bay's Hillside Homes
Steep wooded lots from Birds Eye Cove to Genoa Bay, where a blocked gutter sends water at the bank behind the house. We clear the trough and check where the outlets drain.

Maple Bay does not sit flat. From the water at Birds Eye Cove the land climbs hard toward Mount Tzouhalem on one side and Maple Mountain on the other, and most houses are cut into that slope with trees above and below them. A gutter here is the only thing standing between a winter’s rain and the bank the house is built on.
We work the whole area, from the waterfront up Maple Bay Road and out the long, winding road to Genoa Bay.
Three kinds of tree, three seasons of debris
Most of the valley deals with fir and maple. Maple Bay adds arbutus and Garry oak on its drier, rockier ground, and each drops on its own schedule.
- Arbutus sheds leaves and curls of red bark in early summer, while everything else is still green. That debris dries in the trough and then turns to paste when the first fall storm arrives.
- Garry oak holds its leaves late, so the gutter fills a second time after you thought fall was over.
- Douglas fir drops needles all year and cones after every windstorm. The needles bind the oak and arbutus litter into a solid layer.
A house under all three can need attention more often than one in town, and the timing matters as much as the frequency.

Where the water goes on a slope
There is no storm main up most of these roads. Downspouts empty onto splash blocks, into rock pits, or into a pipe that carries the water down the hill. That is fine while the gutter works. When it overflows, water sheets off the eave onto the uphill side of the house and pools against the foundation, or it spills off the downhill side straight onto loose soil above a drop.
So we do not stop at the trough. Each downspout gets flushed, and we watch where the water lands. If an outlet is cutting a channel into the bank or soaking the crawlspace wall, we point it out.

Down by the water
Waterfront houses at Birds Eye Cove and the marina side take the wind and salt air instead of the shade. Fasteners and older steel gutters corrode faster in that air, and a hanger that has rusted through lets a section drop. While we clear the run we look along it for loose hangers, pulled spikes and seams that have opened up, and we tell you what we find.
Higher up the Maple Bay Road hillside the problem is cold, not salt. The upper slopes hold frost longer than the valley floor, and a gutter still full of wet needles in a cold snap freezes solid, sometimes splitting a seam or pulling the gutter forward off the fascia. A clean gutter going into December is the simplest protection there is.
Why choose us
Why choose us for gutter cleaning in maple bay
We read the slope first
On a hillside lot, ladder footing decides how the job runs. We sort that out on the walk-around, before anyone climbs.
Runoff kept off the bank
Downspouts on a slope have to point somewhere sensible. If one is dumping onto bare soil above a drop, we will show you.
Summer debris, winter rain
Arbutus sheds while everything else is green. We time visits around the trees on your lot, not a fixed calendar.
Covered while we work
Insured and WCB-registered, with more than ten years on Vancouver Island rooflines and a guarantee on the work.

Getting a quote in Maple Bay
Send us the address and a note about access: a steep driveway, a shared road, a dog in the yard. We look at the property, explain what it needs, and give you a firm quote. The roads out here are slow, and we plan the day around that.

Got questions?
Maple Bay gutter cleaning FAQ
Our lot is steep. Can you still set a ladder safely?
Most of the time. We look at where a ladder can stand level and firm before quoting, and on stepped lots we often work the uphill side from a different footing than the downhill side. If part of a roofline cannot be reached safely, we tell you which part and why rather than taking a chance on it.
Arbutus drops leaves in summer. Should we clean then too?
If an arbutus hangs over the roof, a quick clear in late summer stops the dry leaves and bark from sitting in the gutter until the fall rain turns them to paste. Under oak or fir alone, the late-fall and spring visits are usually enough.
Do you work out at Genoa Bay?
Yes. Genoa Bay is part of our Maple Bay coverage, along with Birds Eye Cove, the waterfront and the houses up Maple Bay Road and on the Maple Mountain side. The roads out there are narrow, so let us know about parking or a shared driveway when you book.
Water pours over the gutter in heavy rain even after it was cleaned. Why?
On a steep roof facing a big slope of trees, the gutter can be clean and still struggle. A downspout that is too small for the run, a long run with only one outlet, or a gutter that has lost its slope will all overflow. We check flow while we are up there and tell you if the gutter itself is the limit.
Is Maple Bay part of Duncan?
No. Maple Bay sits in the Municipality of North Cowichan, east of Duncan over the ridge. For booking purposes it makes no difference; it is a regular part of our Cowichan Valley route.
